Sunday 21st of March, at 10 o’clock the single tournament started. At this tournament, BDO / WDF ranking points and Winmau World Masters tickets could be earned and that is why the top of the Dutch, Belgium and British dart players registered for the tournament. The tournament, a BDO category B tournament with 22 points for the winner means one step closer being for being selected for the Lakeside. Among the players were remaining Lakeside World Champion Martin Adams and other players who reached the lakeside podium such as John Walton, Tony O’Sea, Darryl Fitton, Brian Woods, the Scots John Henderson, Ross Montgomery and the Dutch players Willy van de Wiel and Joey ten Berge.
Other Dutch top darters who were present are: Frans Harmsen, Edwin Max, Remco van Eijden, en Henny van der Ster. Players from Belgium which you could call outsiders as well are the brothers Kim and Ronny Huybrechts and Geert de Vos.
The ladies tournament had names like Deta Hedman, Dee Bateman from England, Francisca Hoenselaar, Karin Krappen, from Holland, Irina Armstrong from Russia and Patricia de Peuter from Belgium. Besides the man & woman tournament, also the boys and girl tournament was held. No ranking points could be earned, but with tickets to participate with the Winmau World Masters.
Men's finaleThe winner of the men competition was the Scot John Henderson, in the exciting final, “Hendo” managed to turn around a score of 0 -2 being behind to win in the end with 3 – 2 for the Englishman Steve West.
Ladies finaleEarlier in the afternoon the ladies final was played over a best of 3 sets – best of 5 legs. Russian Irina Armstrong and the English Deta Hedman were the finalists, Deta started the match. Although it was a nice match, it showed that Deta had the best form of the day and won the MariFlex, another IDToL tournament to her name, making he position on the world ranking even better as it was.
